The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

Assessments can offer valuable information about yourself and others, especially when forming, building or working with established groups or teams. We have chosen the Myers Briggs Type Indicator because we have found it to be an extremely valuable tool in helping our clients become more effective communicators and better prepared to achieve their goals. The MBTI is an important and optional part of our programs. If the MBTI is selected for your group, logon information will be provided.

A brief history of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator

Developed by the mother/daughter team, Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs, the MBTI is based on Karl Jung’s theory of personality type.

When completing the MBTI, you will be asked to respond to questions about your preferences in various situations, and the result is an indicated “type” or personality. The word indicated is chosen because, unlike other personality instruments, the respondent (you!), with the help of a qualified type professional (me!), decides their “best fit” type. “Preferences” means the MBTI is not about skill, intelligence, or talent. Instead, knowing one’s type “gives insight into one’s motives, behaviors and interactions with others.”*

The great news is there is no bad or unhealthy way to come out on the indicator because the MBTI simply describes the different ways we take in information, make decisions, use our energy and approach the outer world. It is the most widely used instrument of its kind, and almost everyone finds their MBTI results to give them valuable insight both into themselves and the people they encounter in work or personal life.
